About Dr. (Prof) D. S. Gambhir
After obtaining his doctorate degree (DM), he joined the Department of Cardiology, G.B. Pant Hospital, New Delhi as Asstt. Professor in 1985 and then rose to the position of Professor at the young age of 44 years. Delivered lectures as Guest Speaker on different subjects pertaining to heart diseases and interventions in several international meetings, including American College of Cardiology (ACC), TCT (USA), Euro-PCR (Paris), Singapore Live (Singapore), Angioplasty Summit (Korea), CCT and TOPIC (Japan), Vascular Leader Summits (Bangkok, Shanghai and Malaysia), Pan African Meeting (Tunisia) He has published 115 original papers in national and international journals, contributed chapters in various text books besides editing ‘Cardiology Update’ under the aegis’s of Cardiological Society of India in 2002. Principal Investigator of several multicentric national and international drug and devices trials.Performed more than 15,000 coronary interventions. Trained a large number of doctors in the field of interventional cardiology by performing Live Demonstrations in several teaching courses, in India as well as overseas. Dr. Gambhir has delivered more than 300 guests lectures and invited to deliver 40 orations in National Meetings and Conferences since 1985. Dr. Gambhir was the first Indian cardiologist to develop a drug-coated stent in 2002, in collaboration with a group of clinical scientists from India. His monthly column in ‘SAMVAD’ - a community news magazine with circulation of more than one lac, has earned him great admiration from the citizens of Noida and Delhi.Prof. Gambhir was conferred the Padma Shri Award by the President of India in the year 2016 for his meritorious contribution in the field of cardiology over the past three decades. State Award by the Government of Delhi, “Life Time Achievement Award” from Delhi Medical Association and several other state branches of IMA. Bestowed with “Distinguished Physician Award” from the Association of American Cardiologists of Indian Origin, USA. Conferred Legend in Cardiology Award for 2017 by Times Group, Pioneer in Interventional Cardiology by Delhi Intervention Council. Distinguished Aluminus Award of Maulana Azad Medical College in 2017. Recently on Doctor’s Day (July 1st 2018), Dr. Gambhir was felicitated for ‘Inspiring Role’ as Cardiologist in India by Economics Times and bestowed Vashist Chikitsa Award by Delhi Medical Association.Hospital
